Subject: checking out laptops - clarification
Sarah –
I got a call requesting clarification regarding checking laptops out to parents who present child’s card. I explained to the individual who called that we should check the laptop out only to the individual to whom the card belongs. So, if the parent of a three year old presents the child’s card, and the child is not present, we should not override the policy and check the item out. However, if the parent of a three year old presents the child’s card, and the child is present, we can check the item out to the child. If the parent takes control of the computer after the check out to the child, that is not a matter for us to interfere in. The staff member should check the item out to the person to whom the card belongs, though. Clearly, the parent would have to sign the agreement for the three year old, and that’s fine, but the computer should be checked out to the person to whom the card belongs.
Could you make sure everyone in your work group is clear about this?
Thanks.
Fred
