III's R2011 coming soon!

It’s that time again – Release 2011, a new III full update is now in general release. We waited a bit before upgrading to the newest release so that any major issues coming with it would be discovered.

We plan on doing this update for both III servers, HALHP and HALOS, beginning the evening of Wednesday, February 8th, finishing early in the morning of February 9th. A testing and evaluation period will immediately follow once the upgrade is complete.

There will be new JAR files to load for most of the Millennium clients so when asked, go ahead and download the files. Please allow a little extra time to bring up the Millennium modules after the upgrade.

As our usual practice, I'll be sending additional information out to you in a few days providing details about what you can expect from the upgrade. Most of the new behavior is not ‘enabled’ by default, so I'll also be setting up a meeting to discuss what member libraries may want to activate.

Although there are not a lot of new client features coming with the upgrade to R2011, there are a number of fixes.

Below are some of the outstanding issues that will be “fixed” when we upgrade to R2011, many of them reported by HALAN.

• Program Registration
Suppressed section records do not display on the room calendar. Suppressed or unpublished programs do display, but if the section record is suppressed, it does not display.

Searches in the program keyword index do not find matching records when terms occur in different fields in the record.

• Location hyperlinks in catalog
Location room names in program sections are not hyperlinked in the catalog

• Replacement charge not removed
When a long overdue item that has had a replacement charge assessed is returned and checked in, sometimes the replacement cost remains on the patron's record.

• Problem with Circa checkin during inventory
If a Circa login does not have a ‘locations served’ assigned, and the staff member doing inventory finds an item that is checked out and tries to check it in, the staff member sees the message "Circa is unable to perform the requested task" and then is unable to resume the inventory process.

• Problem with split multi in reports
A library reports that "Split Multi" does not work properly for orders with both multi locations and multi funds.
