Summer in Houston has arrived and with it very hot temperatures. We all need to be mindful of how the weather can affect our health. Even though we don't work outside much, it's still important to pay attention. Please remember to drink lots of water during the day. Sarah very graciously has purchased a case of drinking water for each location.
Please see the note from Wendy Heger below.
Thanks,
John
Heat index values today could reach 103-108 degrees in many locations...with heat index values will likely exceed 100 degrees for much of the week ahead!
An upper level low pressure will approach Southeast Texas Tuesday afternoon, potentially triggering scattered showers and thunderstorms. Coupled with daytime heating and instability a few of these storms could be severe during the afternoon to evening on Tuesday!
Working in high temperature environments can be dangerous for everyone! It is important to slow down and pace yourself while working outdoor and/or confined space environments that have limited air-flow or cooled air circulation. Drink plenty of water regardless if you feel thirsty or not, take frequent breaks in a shaded or air-conditioned vehicle/facility, and periodically check on co-workers. Seek immediate medical attention if you start experiencing signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion, heat stroke, or other health-related problems!
We have not been informed of the activation of libraries designated as cooling centers, but this could happen over the following days/weeks.
