HALAN Library Staff Have Begun Data Mapping

Matthew Phillips, a migration expert from Sirsi Dynix, met with HALAN and HALAN library staff January 15th, 16th, and 17th to begin the process of mapping our data from the III Millenium system to the Sirsi Symphony system. The process involves making sure every piece of data (from customer name, holds and fine information to book call number information) goes to the right field in the Sirsi database for best results.

Some things that might interest you:

  • We will be able to separate names into first and last names and addresses into address, city, state and zip in the new system.
  • Patron history data should migrate.
  • Sirsi separates building location and shelving location into two separate pieces of data. (When a collection floats, the building location changes but the shelving location does not. Therefore, all the buildings in a library need matching shelving locations.)
Our deadline for completing the mapping process is the end of February.
