Greetings all.

This is just a reminder that you should not place item level holds on items with location hhpl.  These are “dummy” items that exist only to allow ordered titles to appear in the catalog.  They will never be associated with actual items, so item level holds placed on them will never be filled. 

When you find that you need to place a hold on a bib with an item attached with location hhpl, you should place the hold at the bibliographic (title) level.  The best way to avoid making the mistake of placing an item level hold on an item with location hhpl is to place holds through the catalog.  Holds placed online through the catalog are automatically placed at the bib level, unless there is volume information in the record that requires the selection of a specific item.  If you choose to place holds in Millennium, you will need to choose “Hold Copy Returned Soonest” to place bibliographic level holds.  You should only choose to place an item level hold (Hold Selected Copy) when you need a specific item to fill the customer’s need.

Again, items with location hhpl don’t really exist, so item level holds placed on them won’t be filled.  Please refrain from placing such holds.  Placing holds through the catalog will help you avoid this error.
