12/29/17 Meeting Notes

Congratulations to the staff on a successful Holiday Fun Progam! Special thanks to Tiffany for organinzing the 12 Days of Christmas Give Away and to Frances (and Elves) for organizing the Santa Visit! Vinson! Vinson! Vinson!

Schedule:

• Mandarin Chinese will begin Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Class will be 2:00 - 4:00 in the classroom. All are welcome
• Wednesday ESL call will move to Thursday 4:30 - 5:30 in Teen Room
• Movie will move to Tuesday
• Craft will move to Thursday
• Greg will return next Friday. We will still set up his class while he continues his rehab.

Reminders:

• Health assessment is due February 2, 2018
• Staff computers can now use Microsoft Office software (thanks, Don!)
• Sign-in: vinlibrary@houstonlibrary.net     Password: Book$2013
• Please remember to write program numbers on stat sheet, separate into age groups
• Please remember to complete trainings on TMS. Analisa will schedule time to complete these over the next month, including specific time for NBC training (when it becomes available)
• Starting January 2, please check in all items from pick-up. Allow time to pick-up and scan.

Notes from the Manager's Meeting:

• Booksale prices will become standardized:
• Magazines: $.25     Paperback: $.50      Hardback/Media: $1.00
• We can still have specialized Vinson sales for short periods of time
• Please respond to parade email if you are interested in helping. You will have to walk, not ride in the car!
• Robinson will open soon. If you are interested in transferring to work at Robinson, please respond to email. 
• Continue to sign-up patrons 0-18 for the Winter Reading Program. They cannot log after January 8. Prizes will be awarded January 2 - 18. Lollipops may or may not come. 
• Review of Spaces Presentation:
• The following damaged locations are predicted to open:
• Dixon - Fall
• Flores - Summer
• Kashmere - A while
• Kendall - Temp location or 2nd and 3rd floors may open in Spring, OR, complete opening in 2-3 years
• Lakewood - Moving to new location
• Melcher - January
• Stella - August
• Meyer - Summer, looking for new land
• Library system will reorganize into 7 districts including:
• Regional, full-service libraries with potential social worker
• 17 Tech Link libraries - including Vinson, predicted in the next 2 years
• 23 Neighborhood libraries
• Express locations in airports
• 4 Special Collections locations, including new Hispanic Heritage collection
• Please keep in mind that when Vinson becomes a new Tech Link, we are predicting changes in staffing and staff responibilities.
