Dear HPL

I am both thrilled and sad to announce that Edward Melton, Administrative Manager with Neighborhood Libraries, will be leaving HPL to join the San Francisco Public Library’s Executive Team where he will provide oversight and management for the Branch Library Division. The SFPL Branch Division has a staff of over 200, and is comprised of twenty seven (27) branch libraries and Mobile Outreach Services. In his new role, Edward will address key priorities such as maintaining a high level of Public Service, working with community engagement and partnerships, implementing innovation, and assisting with Library Capital Program.

Edward started his work with HPL six years ago as a Librarian II in which he was the first Children’s Librarian and Assist Manager at the McGovern Stella Link Library. After his first year with HPL, he received recognition as the Rookie of the Year. He was also served as interim manager at Stella Link, before his promotion to Administrative Manager in which he was responsible for the new HPL initiative – HPL Express and the HPL Mobile Lab. His role in management expanded as he became part of the Neighborhood Library Administration team with oversight of teams at Bracewell, Blue Ridge, Meyer, Walter, Jungman, Discovery Green, HPL Express SW, Frank, 5^th Ward, and Vinson. He has contributed towards the development of HPL programs and services including literacy, workforce development, technology, financial Literacy, robotics, and other initiatives. He is an active member in Texas Library Association(TLA) and Public Library Association (PLA). In 2007, he was selected by TLA as a TALL Texan and currently serves as a member of the 2012 TLA Program Committee.

Edward has made many dynamic contributions and has been a strong team leader during his tenure with HPL and we will miss him. Please stop by Marston on this Thursday October 27, 2011 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. to wish him well as he begins this new chapter in his career.
