Subject: Network slowness
Greetings fellow HPL team
For the past few weeks, we in IT have been dealing with a problem of internet slowness. It started somewhat intermittent and has, over the past 2 weeks, escalated to become a very serious issue. It is manifesting itself at all libraries.
We have been running tests, monitoring bandwidth for unusual patterns and using everything we had at our fingertips to find and rectify the problem. We are working with City ITD who are providing additional network troubleshooting procedures and collaborating with us in suggested changes we might make or connections we might isolate to come to a resolution.
Tonight after close – around 9:00pm, we will bring the entire network offline and initiate some cleanup routines to see if that helps in the morning.
That outage will not last over 15 minutes. Since this will effect everything we do including Millennium, we do not want to execute this routine during the day.
If that does not prove successful, we will be engaging a CISCO team to come and help us with this diagnosis.
I will keep you informed as to progress as we pass through this crisis.
Thanks for your patience – I use the Internet daily and know the experience of late where it can take as long as 8 minutes to reach your chosen site!
Ron
