HPL Team
Back in March we converted to the new Active Directory (which involved the new password) to your computer and cell and IPAD or any “active-sync” device. One of the new features connected with this Citywide change is the fact that your password will expire every 90 days.
IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE DEVICE YOU MUST FIRST UPDATE YOUR PRIMARY COMPUTER – THE ONE USED DAILY FOR E-MAIL.
Be prepared to change your User Password as you are reminded. You will begin receiving reminders 14 days prior to expiration. You may want to be planning your new "hardened" password which must be 8-characters in length, consist of at least One Upper and Lower Characters (ABC, abc), contain at least one number (0-9) and one special character (!@#$%^). (examples: ABC_cde12 or oI+0*&Q1@);
(The password should not be common words found in a typical dictionary. )

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE FINAL DAY AS YOU WILL THEN BE LOCKED OUT AND NEED SPECIAL ASSISTANCE!
DO NOT ATTEMPT ANY CHANGES TO VARIOUS MOBILE DEVICES IF YOU HAVE NOT CHANGED YOUR PASSWORD ON YOUR OFFICE COMPUTER FIRST.
If you use a personal computing device such-as a laptop, iPad, SmartPhone (iPhone, Android, Windows 7) that connects to the City of Houston network for email and calendar updates, you will need to manually update the device right after you update your main computer. One thing to watch here is that if you have a laptop at home and use VPN, the first time you log into that device after changing everything else, it will still recognize the old password rather than the new one to boot the computer. You must use the old to first gain access to that computer and then take the option to change that password, changing to the new password already selected. Perform a restart. Log back in using your new password and enter the VPN which will already require your new password. Then if you use RDP to get to your G, U, V, W or any other network drive, you will need to use the new password for that access also.
