OneCard, HCPL returns and City-County branches

The message below is sent as a reminder of some agreements we have with HCPL

Houston Public Library and Harris County Public Library have developed the following cooperative agreements for the benefit of our shared customers:

1. One Card – The One Card agreement allows shared customers to choose to use either the HPL Power Card or the HCPL Knowledge Card as the library card for both systems. For HPL this means that some of our shared customers may choose to use their HCPL barcodes for their HPL patron accounts. When this happens, staff should note the HCPL Knowledge Card barcode on the registration form and scan the HCPL Knowledge Card barcode into the barcode field in the III patron record.

2. HCPL returns at HPL locations – along with the One Card agreement, both HPL and HCPL agree to allow customers to return one-another’s materials at any of our locations. For HPL this means that HCPL customers may return any material borrowed from HCPL or any institution with which HCPL has reciprocal borrowing agreements (Lone Star College Libraries and Montgomery County Public Library) at any HPL location. When this occurs, HPL staff members will need to open a session in the HCPL Horizon system (HCPL’s Integrated Library System) and check the items in. Once the items are checked in on the HCPL Horizon system, they should be sent to Circulation Administration (CIR) for return to HCPL.

The training documents that were given out when we initially started this program are attached. Please look them over for more thorough instruction regarding either of the agreements mentioned above. If you need additional information or explanation, don’t hesitate to contact me.
