Update to Encore

By noon on Monday, Encore should be updated to include Synergy, a federated search of Ebsco Masterfile, Academic Search Complete, Business Source Complete, and Consumer Health Complete. 

When a search is performed in Encore, the top 3 articles will be displayed in the list of catalog search results, beginning about the 4^th entry in the results list. The article titles will appear under the header “Top results for articles:”, with a link to “View more”.  If you mouse over an article title, a brief description will show, with links to the full article.If you click on one of the articles, in-library use will be seamless and the customer will go straight to the article. Remote users will be prompted to authenticate and then be taken to the article.

In addition, we will have a new facet called Articles under Refine by “Format”.   The Articles facet will also show up above the Encore search box on the results browse page, along with the Digital Images option.

Please be sure to make yourself familiar with this new feature of the Encore search.  I am sure that our customers will have questions about what they are seeing and you should be prepared to explain the changes to them. 

I am very excited about this opportunity to make our customers more aware of the fantastic information we have available through our databases.  If you have any questions or discover problems with the Synergy search, please let me know.  And if you have any great success stories, I’d love to hear them as well.
